The 30-year old playmaker’s new agreement will see him remain at Cardiff City Stadium until the summer of 2022.

‘Tommo’ is a firm favourite with the City support. He has netted four times and assisted on five occasions in seventeen appearances in 2019/20.

Speaking about his new deal in the Welsh capital, Lee said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get it done and dusted. Now I can kick on.

“The fans stuck by me, no matter what and I’m starting to repay them. I think that’s why I had no intention of going anywhere else, because for me they’ve been unbelievable. Every time I start a game and you go out at home it brings a smile and a shiver down my spine. I just want to do well for them as well.

“I can’t wait for Sunday now. At the away game I had a problem and couldn’t play, and the lads joked that I was scared. I’m not about all that. I don’t care who it is against. I’m looking forward to it. I definitely want to win!”

Cardiff City FC manager Neil Harris gave his thoughts on Lee’s new contract, adding: “It’s important to add players to a group in any window if you can, but sometimes the best business you do can be done internally. Lee Tomlin committing his future to the club is really key to us moving forward; he’s been a huge part of the positive dynamic since I’ve come in and is integral to the way we want to play. It’s not just about his ability to score and create goals, but also his work ethic; he’s an infectious character who has done really well.

“It was key that we tied Lee down to a longer-term deal as he approached the final months of his contract. I’d like to thank Tan Sri Vincent and the Board for their working in getting this done and we’re all looking forward to working with Lee over the coming seasons.”
