Work begins on new Cardiff City FC training ground
Last month, initial building work began on our new training ground, located close to Hensol Villas in the Vale of Glamorgan.
A final agreement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council was completed in early August, which will allow the Club to develop several pitches across a 44-acre site, with a further application for a two-storey central building and car park also approved. Our new training base will contain a state-of-the-art gym, treatment facilities, meeting rooms, dining areas and office spaces.
Work began on August 9th, with Board Members Ken Choo and Steve Borley overseeing the very first stages of development. Plenty of progress has since been made, with everybody at Cardiff City extremely excited to see the project up and running.
CEO and Chief Executive, Ken Choo, said: “It’s a big day for us. We’ve been waiting for this day for ages, and finally the day has come. Tan Sri Vincent is extremely happy.
"There were many environmental matters that we had to take into account. We have been scheduling and progressing the development of the Club; last year we did the Academy development with Cardiff University and Cardiff Council, a tripartite agreement, and this year we are prioritising the development of the training ground.
“The Football Association of Wales has been an extremely great partner for us, but by doing this, we can be self-sustaining. It’s great for the players in the Academy who are coming through; they can see, from the Academy, the training ground and the stadium, that pathway.”
Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, added: “This project has been in the pipeline for a number of years, so I’m delighted that we have now reached agreement over the lease of the land.
“It will offer Cardiff City the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art facility which can benefit its first and youth teams.”
