Today, Cardiff City Football Club welcomes the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, based in Windsor.
The 1st Battalion Welsh Guards were formed on February 26th, 1915, by the order of HM King George V. Since that day, the Battalion has deployed on every major conflict including the Falklands War, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Their current role has them conducting State Ceremonial Public Duties and during the last two years they have been part of the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of HM King Charles III. They have also deployed on exercises to Kenya, America, the Falkland Islands and Oman during this period.
Ahead of today’s 12.30pm kick-off, the teams will be led out and wreaths will be laid by Warrant Officer Class Two Matthew Green and Warrant Officer Class Two Thomas Hiscock.
Cardiff City FC and the Welsh Guards have established strong links over the years. We are delighted to have them with us today as we mark Remembrance Weekend in memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
