Warnock | Let’s thrive on the derby atmosphere
WARNOCK'S SWANSEA PREVIEW
Neil Warnock called for his players to relish Sunday’s South Wales Derby as he held his pre-match press conference at the Vale Resort.
The Bluebirds travel to face Swansea City for the first time since the 2013/14 season, and the Gaffer explained that his players are fully aware of the significance of the fixture.
“I’m aware how important it is and how people are looking forward to it," he began. "When you’re in the camp, you’re aware right from the start.
“The atmosphere will be fabulous and it’s why we’re all involved. Your heart beats a little bit quicker. I think it’s a special game, one to look forward to, and I’m sure the fans are!
WARNOCK RELISHING SOUTH WALES DERBY (EXCLUSIVE EXTRA)
“I don’t think either manager will have a lot of motivation to do, because derbies take care of themselves. You just have to remind players not to lose your head, because you can get carried away with the atmosphere and forget what you’re supposed to be doing.”
Sunday’s game will be the first taste of the South Wales Derby for Neil and his playing squad alike, and the City boss explained how he's preparing his men for the challenge ahead.
“We haven’t got anyone who’s played in a South Wales Derby but I think we’ve got players with the character that you need in derbies," he continued. "I look at the likes of Marlon Pack and Sean Morrison. I think you need the characters to stand up and be counted.
“It might not be the big names though; there’s always a hero. They’ve all got an opportunity to be remembered for years to come. Who’s to say Peltier won’t score from 40 yards - that would be a miracle!
“Strange things happen in derbies. What I have emphasised is let’s go and enjoy the atmosphere and thrive upon it.”
