U23 Match Preview | Colchester United vs. Cardiff City
Cardiff City's U23 side travel to face Colchester United on Friday afternoon, as they look to continue their recent form on the road...
Having returned to winning ways last week against Watford at Vicarage Road, the young Bluebirds are now set to face the U's with another away trip.
Last time out, James Crole put City ahead with 15 minutes played, with Jack Leahy on hand to double the lead early in the second half, helping City onto victory in Hertfordshire.
Friday's hosts are currently in sixth place on the U23 PDL South table, having accrued a total of 21 points from their 16 matches played so far this season.
Most recently, the U's were defeated 3-1 away from home by Bristol City, on March 15th. Beforehand, Colchester United were unbeaten in three matches, having defeated both Watford and Charlton Athletic before a goalless draw against Hull City.
Ahead of this week's match, U23s Manager Darren Purse spoke with cardiffcityfc.co.uk to preview Friday's fixture:
"If you look at the last couple of performances that we've had, we've not had the results that we'd deserved. Sometimes you have to put that performance in to get the victory in the next game, which is what came last week against Watford.
"Now it's about the boys embracing the work that they've put in over the last few games, and actually going out there with the confidence to win.
"Heading to Colchester that will certainly be our intention, and if they work as hard as they have done in recent games, and are as ruthless with possession of the ball, then the result will be there.
"They're trusting the process, and trusting themselves, and we got the result last week from doing that. Hopefully we can repeat the process on Friday."
