U21 Match Preview | Watford vs. Cardiff City
Cardiff City’s U21 side return to PDL action against Watford on Tuesday afternoon – 1pm KO.
Following their 4-3 victory over Swansea City last week, the young Bluebirds look to continue their positive form with a trip to Hertfordshire, where they’ll face the Hornets.
Last time out, Jack Leahy’s late strike from 25 yards out proved the difference in a memorable encounter with the Swans in Leckwith, with earlier goals coming from James Crole (a brace) and Isaac Jefferies.
Meanwhile, Watford are currently at the bottom of the table, having lost all of their opening seven league fixtures. In their most recent encounter, the Hornets visited Reading, and were defeated 1-0 by the Royals.
Ahead of Tuesday’s match, U21s Manager Darren Purse discussed the side’s approach to the fixture:
“Returning to training has been good during the week,” began Darren. “Getting the result was important last time out, even if the performance wasn’t quite what we wanted on the day.
“We’ve still got a lot to work on, and that’s what training has been all about, with plenty of hard work that the boys have hopefully taken on board.
“We can slowly see the work that we’ve put in on the training pitch coming to fruition in games, but we’re still a work in progress as this moment in time.
“The better the performances that you have, the more results you’ll pick up. It’s about getting that consistency, and picking up on the levels that we set on a daily basis.
“At this level you never know what side you’ll be playing against, in terms of whether there will be first team players involved. The boys have got to adapt to that when they’re out there, as Watford will be putting in a challenge.”
