U21 Match Preview | Reading vs. Cardiff City
Cardiff City's U21 side will travel to begin their Premier League Cup campaign against the Royals on Friday afternoon - 2pm KO.
Friday's match will take place at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, with entry being free for all supporters who wish to attend! Entry to the ground will be via the West Lower Stand, at Gate 4.
Having been drawn in the same group as the Royals, Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers, City's fixture this Friday will be their second of the week, following Tuesday's 3-0 away victory against Sheffield United.
The young Bluebirds will now be looking to continue their winning streak with Friday's trip to face Reading, who so far this season have played three PDL fixtures, earning as many points from them.
Beginning their league campaign with a 2-0 loss against the Blades, the Royals defeated Burnley by the same scoreline the following week, and were defeated 3-0 by Coventry City in their most recent outing on Tuesday afternoon.
Ahead of the trip to Berkshire, U21s Manager Darren Purse said: “We left a few of the younger players when we travelled earlier this week, so they’ll be looking forward to stepping into the fray for Friday’s game.
"We’ll pick a side that can hopefully continue our good run of form as we look to go against Reading.
“We’ve entered the Premier League Cup and drawn Reading, Sunderland and Wolves, so hopefully we can get that campaign off to a winning start also.
“Everything is going along really well, so hopefully we can keep ticking the games off and preparing as best we can for the matches ahead.
“We’ll be setting ourselves up for a good test against a former Category One academy on Friday. It will be another tough game, and hopefully we’ll put in a performance which deserves a good result.”
