U21 Match Preview | Haverfordwest County vs. Cardiff City

The Bluebirds walk out at Leckwith...
Cardiff City's U21 side travel to face Haverfordwest County in the Second Round of the Nathaniel MG Cup on Sunday afternoon - 2:30pm KO.

The young Bluebirds will continue their cup run against the Cymru Premier outfit, having defeated Cambrian & Clydach Vale in the First Round in July.

City defeated Cambrian away from home following a dramatic penalty shootout which saw the Bluebirds through in sudden death.

Sunday's hosts have most recently been playing in their Europa Conference League qualifiers over the last few weeks, defeating KF Shkëndija over two legs before falling to Faroese club B36 Tórshavn earlier this week at Cardiff City Stadium.

Darren Purse

Speaking ahead of City's trip westwards this weekend, U21s Manager Darren Purse shared his thoughts and expectations from another exciting cup tie before the 2023/24 PDL campaign begins:

"It's an opportunity for us to play a team that have recently been competing in Europe, while for them it's an opportunity to face a club that plays in the Championship. No matter what side gets selected, there will be that pressure for them to go out there and perform, and it will be the same for us.

"Everybody who is selected for us this Sunday will have to perform with the badge in mind, as they should for every match. We're going up against a club that has been competing in Europe, no matter what their starting lineup is this weekend.

"It's going to be a competitive fixture from two teams who want to succeed in this competition. We've got a young side that are adapting to a new style that we've worked on throughout pre-season, but I feel that it is clicking into place as we continue to develop."
