U21 Match Preview | Cardiff City vs. Pontypridd United
Cardiff City's U21 side return to Leckwith for a pre-season friendly against Pontypridd United on Tuesday evening - 7pm kick-off.
This match will be played on the inner pitch at Cardiff International Sports Stadium, with attendance free for all!
Having most recently defeated Stoke City's U21 side over the weekend, the young Bluebirds' next outing will see them play senior opposition as they look to host the Dragons.
Pontypridd United were promoted to the Cymru Premier at the end of the 2021/22 season, having finished in second place of the Cymru South division, behind only Llantwit Major.
The Dragons are preparing for their return to the top flight of Welsh football with Tuesday's friendly, before they kick-off their campaign against Flint Town United on August 13th.
Ahead of the fixture, U21s Manager Darren Purse expressed his desire for his side to continue their positive recent form as their pre-season continues.
“We’ve pencilled in this match with the intention of getting ready for the season,” began Darren. “We want to get as many of the lads their 90 minutes building into the season, building up that fitness so that there are no excuses when the season starts in a few weeks’ time.
“That will be the big thing from Tuesday night, is that if we walk away with a clean sheet I’ll be happy. Defensively we need to be a bit more assured at the back.
“It’s not all about the results, but it would be nice to keep the run that we’re on, having been unbeaten since the first game at Carmarthen.
“We want to continue that, building the confidence within the squad and pushing the young players through.”
