U21 Match Centre | Ipswich Town vs. Cardiff City

U21 Match Centre
City's U21s return to action on Tuesday afternoon, facing Ipswich Town in the PDL.

The fixture will take place at Ipswich Town Training Centre on January 7th, with a kick-off time of 1pm.

Matthew Bloxham
PRE-MATCH | MATTHEW BLOXHAM

Ahead of the contest, Matthew Bloxham said: "The squad are really looking forward to getting back into action. When we left our last game in December, we were in a really good place and had some great momentum. Although it’s been nice for the players to have some well-deserved time off, it’s time to get back to work and get back to putting in the performances that have got us to where we are in the current moment.

"We’ve played Ipswich Town three times this year and all three games have been a tough test and tactical games. We’ll look to learn from our last game, where we dominated in terms of chances, but we weren’t ruthless enough and that’s something we want to put right and make sure that we stick to our principles, because that’s what has got us so much success; we need to make sure we don’t stray away from that.

"At the moment, the squad is in a really competitive place and the boys have been fantastic in how they’ve applied themselves and have stayed true to the principles and how we have asked them to play. We know that the second half of the season, especially January, has got some really tough games, so it’s important that we get our mindset right, we don’t rest on our laurels and we produce performances that show hard work, our principles, non-negotiables and quality in possession."

Troy Perrett
PRE-MATCH | TROY PERRETT

Playmaker Troy Perrett, who was named on the First Team bench against Sheffield United in December, added: "It was a great experience to be involved and get used to it. It’s been good to be a part of training and overall, it’s been positive and it’s what you work for. The standard is very high and there is a lot of quality, so it’s something that you adapt to over time, the speed and physicality of it, but as I’ve been there more and more, I think I’ve adapted well. You’ve got to take what you’ve learned and apply it to the U21s. It gives you that confidence boost being with the First Team. We have a lot of quality in the U21s anyway, but those experiences are only going to increase that.

"I can’t wait, it’s been almost a month without a game, so myself and the boys are really looking forward to it. It will be a tough challenge, but we’re looking to get a positive result. We’ve played Ipswich Town three times and they’re a difficult opponent to play. They have a lot of strong and physical players, but I think if we stick to our plan and play our normal game, we can do well against them. You’ve got to go into every game confident, but the last few games with the U21s have been positive and I’ve had that experience with the First Team, which has given me more confidence, but I just have to keep trying to prove myself week-in week-out."
