The Bluebirds have welcomed young central defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott to CCS.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and England youth international will link up with Darren Purse’s U21 squad.
Fagan-Walcott has senior experience with Spurs and also Dundee while on loan. The 21-year-old has signed an initial agreement until the end of the 2023/24 season.
“It’s a big season for me now. I’m really happy to be here,” Malachi told us after signing at CCS. “I already know one of the boys. It only took about two weeks for me and Kion [Etete] to form a bond at Spurs, and since then we’ve never looked back. He loves it here and has only said good things, I’ve been here to watch him too, so I know all about the Club.
“I want to impress for the U21s. I need to get back playing regularly and then pushing towards the senior squad.”
A former City centre-back, captain and now U21 head coach, Darren Purse knows all about what is required to make the next step for a young defender. Discussing this new addition, he added: “He’s going to bring experience. He’ll be one of the older players in our group and he’s a specimen of a young man. He’s very good in possession of the ball and can read the game well. He’ll be a good addition to the squad and to push our other centre-backs.
“We want him pushing to be involved in the First Team. It’s a great signing for the football club and we’re looking forward to working with him.
“Like I say to all of the U21 boys: ‘we’ll give you the opportunity, but you’ve got to go and take it’, and we’ll be hoping that Malachi does just that.”
