U18 Match Report | Bristol City 3-3 Cardiff City
Cardiff City U18 strengthened their grip on third place in the PDL South division with a 3-3 draw away at Bristol City.
Steve Jenkins made one change to the team that defeated Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, with Tanatswa Nyakuhwa replacing Troy Perrett.
Jenks was also forced into a late change as Will Spiers was withdrawn in the warmup, with Morgan Lewis stepping into the starting eleven.
After a quiet start, it was the Robins who had an opportunity to go ahead halfway through the first half, as the referee awarded them a penalty. Callum Hutton stepped up and converted to put the hosts ahead.
City were only behind for ten minutes, as Nyakuhwa stepped up to take a free kick and gave Bristol City keeper Joseph Duncan no chance of saving it, levelling the score.
The young Bluebirds pushed for a goal to take them in front at the break but it didn’t come, as both sides headed back to the dressing rooms with the score at 1-1 after 45 minutes.
City made a lightning start to the second period and were rewarded six minutes into it. Japhet Matondo applied a smart finish to put the Bluebirds in front for the first time in the match.
With 70 minutes played, City got their third of the afternoon. A well-worked corner routine caught out the Robins defence, allowing Cody Twose to find the net.
The hosts sent a warning shot back two minutes later however, as Kai Churchley pulled one back. Their comeback would be complete nine minutes later, as Luke Skinner got himself on the scoresheet.
Both sides pushed for a winner but it wasn’t forthcoming, and the points were shared. The result stretches the Bluebirds’ unbeaten run to four games, and maintains their third place position in the PDL South.
