U18 Match Preview | Cardiff City vs. Sheffield Wednesday
Cardiff City’s U18 side return to the Professional Development League on Tuesday (07/03), hosting Sheffield Wednesday at Cardiff International Sports Campus – 11am kick-off.
After defeating Swansea City, the young Bluebirds made it back-to-back victories on Saturday, with a 3-1 win against Ipswich Town. Two goals for Japhet Matondo and one for Will Spiers made it a comfortable afternoon for Steve Jenkins’ side.
The result still keeps Cardiff City in third place in PDL South and nine points behind leaders Millwall, but City do have a game in hand on the Lions and Charlton, who currently sit in second place.
Tuesday sees Jenks’ side play against Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls currently sit in seventh place in the PDL North, having picked up 17 points from 16 games. They are coming into this one on the back of a 3-0 win away at Hull City. Goals from Joey Phuthi, Cian Flannery and Devlan Moses sealed Wednesday’s fourth win of the season.
Even though it is a short turnaround from the win on Saturday, Steve Jenkins is looking forward to the midweek clash.
“It’s great, we love a midweek fixture,” Steve began. “We had one the week before last, so it’s another three-game week. For the development of the boys, to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday is great for them.
“It’s really intense the quick turnaround. We have to quickly analyse the game from Saturday and prepare for Tuesday. There will be a lot of work done on Monday and get the boys physically ready as well, two games in 36 hours is a lot for them.”
