U18 Match Preview | Bristol City vs. Cardiff City
Cardiff City’s U18 side return to the Professional Development League on Saturday (11/3), as they travel to take on Bristol City at the Robins High Performance Centre – 11am kick-off.
The young Bluebirds are on a good run of form and maintained their winning streak with a 5-0 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday. A hat-trick from Trey George along with two goals for Troy Perrett capped off a professional and comfortable performance for City.
With the team on a three-game winning run, U18s Manager Steve Jenkins is happy with the mental fortitude of the squad after a difficult run of games previously.
“Even though there’s a great atmosphere in the training ground and in the group, it always helps to win games,” Steve began. “It shows that we’re a good team. We had a difficult phase of games, which we knew were going to be tough. There were some other circumstances to why we lost those games, but I think coming out of that period shows how good a group we are.
“I’m so pleased for the lads, because the amount of work they put in in order to win three games on the bounce isn’t easy, so all credit to them.”
The result keeps Cardiff City in third place in the PDL South and six points behind leaders Millwall.
Saturday sees Jenks’ side make the short trip over the Severn Bridge to take on Bristol City. The Robins currently sit in fourth place, ten points behind the Bluebirds. Bristol City come into this game off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Swansea City, with Zane Myers and Iwan Morgan’s goals sealing the win for the Swans.
Manager Jenkins is hoping to emulate the result the First Team achieved against the Robins last week.
“Hopefully we can do what the First Team did,” Steve continued. “The Severnside derby is always great, but we’re in a good place at the moment. The boys have been looked after over the past couple of days, but it’s non-stop for these guys.”
