Ollie Tanner spoke to the press to preview our Emirates FA Cup clash against Sheffield United on Thursday evening.
The Bluebirds are set to begin the Emirates FA Cup campaign, a competition that is special to the City winger.
“It’s a big competition for me," he began. "I made my professional debut in the FA Cup for Bromley, that was my first taste of men’s football.
“I was an Arsenal fan growing up, so I had some nice moments watching the FA Cup, seeing Rambo (Aaron Ramsey) scoring some goals in finals, so I’ve got some fond memories of it for sure.
"It’s another game. You want to win every game and you want to carry on momentum, no matter what you’re doing in the league, you always want to keep winning.
"It’s a chance for us to use it, if we’re going to rotate or whether we’re going to keep playing, I’m not sure, but it’s a chance to win another game and keep moving forward and that’s what we need to keep doing."
Tanner has made 22 appearances this season, finding the net in away fixtures against Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.
“I’ve felt good this year, had a good pre-season, then came into the league, Riz (Omer Riza) gave me a chance, I’ve started a lot of games and I feel like I’ve adapted well.
"I’ve not got the numbers that I wanted, but hopefully that will come with time. I’m back from an injury now, so hopefully I can kick on.
“Omer has been brilliant for me. I think you could see from the first game that I played under him, he has allowed me to be free and play how I want to play. I can’t be more grateful to him.
“I think had about 40 appearances last season, but most of them were from the bench, I learned about the league that way.
"This year, I’ve started more games than coming off the bench, so I feel like I’ve adapted fully. Like I said, I’ve not got the numbers that I’ve wanted, I know I have to improve on that, but I feel like I’m there and enjoying my football."
Thursday's opponents are flying high in the Sky Bet Championship and head into the fixture on the back of a 2-1 victory over Watford last time out.
"They’re footballers, we’re footballers and it’s going to be a game of football. You can’t say that they’re going to win because they’re them, we have to go there and give it our best go. I’m sure we can win a game of football, we nearly did against them before.
"I think it was a wonderstrike from Kieffer Moore, but bar that, I didn’t really see much in the game. It was a good performance and I don’t see why we can’t get through to the next round.
“We’ve got a good group of boys, so it’s easy to stay motivated and keep training well, even when we’re not getting the results we want on the pitch. Morale is good and we’re looking forward to the game."
