Romaine Sawyers was interviewed on the pitch at CCS immediately after the final whistle, following City’s 2-0 victory over Bristol City.

The midfielder has been instrumental since the arrival of Sabri Lamouchi at Cardiff City Stadium, and put in another outstanding performance in the Welsh capital on Saturday afternoon.

“Today was massive,” Romaine began. “After the last game we needed a reaction, and these are the kind of games that we know the crowd will definitely be behind us, and when we perform like that, you can see what it means to them and to us.

“We want to play like that more often and I know we’ll get their support.”

City had a comfortable 2-0 advantage going into added time, but were forced to finish the game without a recognised goalkeeper, with Ryan Allsop shown red in added time after an accidental handball outside the area.

Romaine continued: “We saw it out for Rocky. He’s been top drawer for us all season. That reaction to the situation showed we’re all in this together.

“I thought we limited them to minimal chances. You saw their first real chance of the game we kept it out through grit and determination with Rocky and Cédric [Kipré].

“From there, the boys defended well. It felt like just a matter of time before we got it together going forward and we scored two goals at home. That’s always a good thing.

“I think you can see we’re up for it. Every game now we celebrate goals as a team.

“We look alive. It was great to see the Gaffer at the end too feeling that connection with the fans. When we play like we did, we know we’ll have the backing behind us.”
