Salech post-Oxford United | Everything to play for

Yousef Salech
Yousef Salech spoke to Cardiff City TV following our draw against Oxford United at Cardiff City Stadium.

“First and foremost, it’s not the result we came for,” Yousef began. “But in general, we played a good match. Especially in the first half, the intensity with which we were pressing, the forward passing and the energy we were trying to bring into the stadium, which we had a lot of help from the crowd as well today.

“The atmosphere was amazing, the crowd believed in us and pushed us, and we could feel that on the pitch which gave us an amazing energy boost. We wanted to go for three points today like any other game. We came up short, but I feel like we did a lot of good things.

“We still have everything to play for, two big finals left. With the support we had today, I think if we keep getting that, work hard and keep focused, we can still achieve anything. We’re frustrated that we didn’t get three points at the end, but my feeling is that might have been the best first half I’ve seen while I’ve been here.”

Yousef’s goal today was his seventh across all competitions since his arrival at the Club in January.

“My position as striker means my job is to score goals and help the team” Yousef added. “It was nice to score again today. The feeling was amazing in front of our fans who were so passionate today. The feeling was we were going to go on to win this game and build from there. But as a striker, your job is to work hard for the team and to be a part of the pressing and to keep the ball, so I try to do my part in all aspects of the game today.

“I’m enjoying my time here and hope I can be here for a long time. I’ve enjoyed the Club, the fans, the stadium, the city, everything around it. Hopefully we can first and foremost stay in the league and build from there for next season.

Yousef concluded with a message to the fans ahead of our final home match against West Bromwich Albion.

“The support was amazing today. If we can get the same on Saturday for our last home game of the season, we’ll have a very good chance of getting three points and then we’ll have everything to play for in the last game.”
