Robinson post-Reading | I'm feeling sharp

Interviews
Callum Robinson spoke to the press after the Bluebirds' 2-1 win over Reading in our penultimate match of pre-season.

The City attacker netted a fine brace and was highly influential in the victory, continuing his positive form in pre-season.

“Personally, it has gone well for me," Robbo began. "I feel a lot sharper and that’s the main thing from pre-season for me is that my body feels right and I’ve scored a few goals.

“I feel like I’m moving a lot better than I did all of last season and it’s just down to that hard work that I’ve put in. I’m happy to chip in with the goals that I’ve scored.

“I had a back injury against Wycombe in the last pre-season game of last season and I struggled after that. As a player, I’ve played a lot of years in the top end and I knew I wasn’t feeling 100%.

"As a professional, you don’t want a year like that, but I had a reset over the summer, was at home putting the hours in the gym making sure that my body was right. Hopefully, that’s what I’ve done."

His first goal came as a result of some tireless pressing, as he charged down goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke's clearance to open the scoring.

In the second half, a perfect cross from U21 left-back Luey Giles set up the striker to double his tally.

Robbo continued: “I made my movement, went in and out and as a striker, you just have to hope that the right delivery comes in.

"I didn’t have to break my stride, it was a lovely ball in and then, you just have to concentrate on the finish.

"I’ve been practising that throughout my career and those are the chances that you want. I’ve been getting them in pre-season and I’ve been putting them away."

The Bluebirds have one more pre-season fixture against Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon prior to the start of the league season.

City welcome Sunderland on the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship, with a positive pre-season under the squad's belt.

“I think the optimism has always been there," he added. "The manager’s new contract has given us stability and that has helped the boys.

"We’ve been putting different ideas in during pre-season, which you can see, like working from the back and pressing. Hopefully, we can bring that into the season.

"We need to have that trust in each other and confidence to bring it into the Sunderland game in the first game of the season."
