Omer Riza spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Watford on Saturday afternoon.
The City boss has been appointed as First Team Manager on a deal until the end of the season, following a period in charge on an interim basis.
"I’m really happy to be given the opportunity to be the manager of Cardiff City until the end of the season," he began. "It’s something we’ve worked hard towards. I’m really delighted, and hopefully now we can really focus, kick on and continue the performances that we started with.
“What’s important for me is that I’m my own person and my own man. I’ve been coaching for a while and have been a player for a while. I know what I want to do, what I want to apply and how I want the team to play. I believe that we’ve been doing that over the last 12 games that we’ve played.
"Things haven’t gone as swimmingly as we would have liked at times, but it takes time to keep building what you’ve worked on. At the moment we have a core of how we play, and it’s about the next part of how we evolve that."
Saturday's opponents Watford have impressed so far this season, currently sitting sixth in the second tier table.
Omer continued: "For me, it’s a really important game. I was there for a long time and I know a lot of people there, I know all the players, I know the staff and it will mean something to me to put on a performance and perform well. Hopefully, for us, it will be that extra boost.
“At Watford, I was there for six years and helped to produce a lot of players, alongside all the other coaches that were at the club. For me, that was my job at the time, to make sure that I had a team that was playing attractive football and being as creative as we could, whilst teaching them how to play the game in and out of possession. I stepped up to the First Team and could have been given an opportunity, but it has arrived here at Cardiff City.
“For that, I’m thankful to the fans, the owner, the players, all the staff at the Club, because they have made it all possible. I’ve worked hard and I like to think that I have a way about me that people would be open to being a part of. Now it’s our chance to try and apply something at the Club that will help us have stability."
The City boss also gave an injury update on the squad, with a return to fitness for winger Anwar El Ghazi.
The summer recruit has missed the last three matches, having most recently featured against Blackburn Rovers.
“Anwar has been training this week," Omer said. "He will be back in contention to be in the squad. He’s the only one that is back in with us that wasn’t in originally."
