Riza pre-QPR | Exciting in possession

First Team
Omer Riza spoke to Cardiff City TV ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening.

The Bluebirds will be looking to build on a hard-fought point at Sheffield Wednesday on this past Saturday.

“It’s a normal week in respect of back-to-back games coming thick and fast,” Omer began. “We came in and trained on Monday and Tuesday, so we’re ready to go.”

“In such a short space of time, we’ve spoken about the things we need to improve on, like our in-possession quality and excitement. We want to have a presence in possession and to get back to that against QPR.”

Queens Park Rangers head into the contest currently sitting 24th in the second-tier table and claimed a 1-1 draw against Stoke City in their previous fixture.

Omer continued: “I expect the same from every team in the league, everyone wants points and every point is important. They’ll be coming here after not a bad performance against Stoke. They created a lot of opportunities, they were solid and resilient, and that’s what we’re expecting. Like I say, every team we play against is going to be approached with the same thought process.

Wardy [Gavin Ward] was there for eight years, so he was part of the furniture. Chris [Willock] was there a while, so it’s nice to have people that have been there and know the players well. We’ve done our homework on them, so that’s been good.”

City have won four of the last five home matches, including victories over Millwall, Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth and Norwich City, prior to a defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

“It’s always your last game that people remember,” Omer added. “The Blackburn game wasn’t a great one, but we have been good at home and we want to take that into the next game. We want to be dominant in possession and enjoy the ball. I’m sure we’ll get back to that tomorrow.

“When you produce moments like that, it gets the fans off their seats. I’ve said it since day one, I want to excite the fans and for them to be supporting the boys no matter what. They’re our supporters, they love the Club and they’ve been fantastic. We need to give them something to shout about.”
