Riza pre-Blackburn Rovers | Mindset and approach

Omer Riza
Omer Riza spoke to the press ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

“My players and I, and my staff, we’re all one," he began. "I think that’s really important that everyone understands that. I’ll always take full responsibility for my team.

“We’re all working towards the same goal, that’s me, my staff, the players, that’s the whole Club, in respect of where we’re trying to get to. Where we want to get to is to get this Club back to where it’s been before and even higher if we can.

“When we’ve had conversations as a squad, it’s been open and honest, I think that helps. The conversations have been difficult, but sometimes, you need those in order to progress forwards.

“I think individually, as a group and as staff, we have to look at what what we’re doing wrong, what we need to correct or tweak, ask if something is not quite right and if we have to go back two steps in order to progress three steps forwards again. All those things are a part of making sure we’re ready for the next game. It’s always about that next game."

Saturday's opponents currently sit ninth in the second-tier table, having fallen to a narrow defeat at Stoke City last time out.

Omer continued: “They have my old manager. When I was at Watford, Valérien Ismaël was the manager at the time, I was one of his assistants. I know him and Dean [Whitehead] well. It’ll be an interesting game, they’ve had a good season so far and at home they’re strong, but the conversations we’ve had are that mindset and approach are going to be key.

“There have been times when we have played ok and haven’t got things out of the games. Those are gone and the most important thing is points and winning games."

Omer's injury update ahead of this weekend's clash included a return to training for the Bluebirds' captain.

Joe Ralls is training fully. He’s been here a long time and he’s part of the fabric of the Club. He’s got a great attitude and character, the captain of the Club and it’s nice to have him back.

"David Turnbull has been training a few days and looking good. Both of them have a good chance of being in the squad.

"Ollie Tanner is on the grass now, but not with the squad yet. We’re getting people back slowly."
