Riza pre-Aston Villa | Good feeling in the training ground

Omer Riza
Omer Riza spoke to the press ahead of our Emirates FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday evening.

The Bluebirds head into the contest after a 1-0 win over Hull City in midweek, in which Callum Robinson netted a second-half winner.

“It’s always nice to get three points, there’s a good feeling around the training ground," Omer began.

“Although we knew it was a very difficult game and we didn’t quite play the way we wanted to, the three points is important.

“We’ve gone over stuff that we needed to work on and things we were lacking, but also things we did really well. There were a lot of moments in the game that we did well in.

“On reflection, it was just key to get a win over a team around us, which we managed to do yesterday and that was really pleasing.”

Our opponents on Friday currently sit tenth in the Premier League and progressed through the previous round of the competition with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park.

Omer continued: “It looks like they’re going to have a full team of internationals on the pitch, because that’s the depth that they’ve got, they’ll still be very strong.

“We have to manage the game accordingly and correctly.  We have to approach it in a way where we’re not easy to break down.

“Then when we have the opportunity, we can’t lose the ball and give it back to them, we have to use the ball diligently, because they’ll be strong.”

Peter Whittingham and Joe Ralls...

During his career, Peter Whittingham represented both the Bluebirds and the Villans, with the City boss keen to show his support for The PW7 Foundation.

“I knew about him as a player. In his time, he was one of the best players in the Championship," Omer added.

“He was a very exciting player and could anything at any moment. Since I’ve come into this Club, I know what he means to the fans, the staff around the place and the legacy that he’s left.

“Whatever we can do with his foundation, it’s really important. I think that Club does that really well, with Sol Bamba, with Whittingham and with other players in the past, they take the time to remember them and that’s really important.”
