Riza post-Sheffield Wednesday | We showed resilience

Interviews
Omer Riza spoke to the press after the Bluebirds drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

"I think it’s a good point away from home." Omer began. "I think we showed good resilience to come away with something. It probably wasn’t our best game in terms of possession, the quality that we’ve shown in the past, but it’s a tough place to come.

"The weather conditions weren’t great. I thought everybody played a big part in getting a point today, so I was happy with the result.

"Whatever points you can pick up away from home, whether it’s one, whether it’s three, is always good for you. Coming off the back of two defeats, it was important that we showed a resilience coming away from home at Hillsborough, which is a tough place to come.

"They’re a good side and they attack well. They are fluent in their attacking if you allow them the ball, and I think we did that a little too much today with our own possession. We turned the ball over a little bit untidily, weren’t clinical enough with that pass, which we have been in the past. Like I said, that’s something that we need to look at and get back to for Wednesday."

A change of shape in the second half helped City thwart Wednesday's attacking efforts, with Riza pleased by the performance of his players.

"I think it disrupted their flow a little bit. We needed to get a bit more pressure on them, so we changed to a 3-4-3 and tried to get Perry [Ng] and Callum [O’Dowda] a little bit higher. We brought on another player in Joel [Bagan], who showed good possession on the ball at the back, and good composure.

"We still had instances where we won the ball back and could have countered, but in possession today we could have been tidier, a bit cleaner. We’ll work on that when we go back to the training ground. But, we've come away with a point and we can build on that moving forward into Wednesday.

"We're relishing every game, but we've got to make sure that we've got everybody ready to play, and be at a level where they're impactful when they come in. The rotation of the squad is going to be important now, when we can do it. It's thick and fast, we're looking forward to it, and hopefully we can keep picking up points."
