Omer Riza

Riza post-Plymouth Argyle | Delighted for the players

Interviews
Omer Riza spoke to the press following City's 5-0 victory over the Pilgrims on Saturday afternoon.

As City made five goals from five different goalscorers, Omer began by sharing his thoughts on City's performance at CCS.

“I’m really happy for the boys.” Omer began. “I’m happy for the players, and for the fans. I’ve said all along the most important thing is to try and get the results, to try and bring everyone back together and hopefully we did that today.”

“I think that in the previous games we showed glimpses of it, and we were unlucky or lacked the quality to score, finish and punish but today it came together.

"We went 2-0 up before the red card and we looked like we were dominant, we did give a chance away early, which could have changed the game but today really was satisfying for the players.

"We had a mixed bag of who scored and the players that came on were effective so I’m just really happy.”

With goals aplenty and a clean sheet kept on Saturday, Omer went on to praise City's attacking intent shown throughout the full 90 minutes of play.

“We have found positions that suit our attacking players, where they can express themselves and at the same time be able to defend aggressively as a team," he explained. "Now they have got to keep that up.

"Rubin [Colwill] was excellent today; his work rate, his energy, his intensity, and it's the same with Ollie [Tanner] and Alex [Robertson]. The boys that came on, they all have the understanding that first we need to work and if we do that we’ll get our reward.

David [Turnbull] is one of the best technicians we have got in the team and for us it was about maintaining an element of control. I think that he and Alex have done superbly in the middle of the pitch today.”

With a quick turnaround before City take on Portsmouth on Tuesday evening, Riza discussed possible player availability looking towards the next game.

He concluded: Sio [Manolis Siopis] took a knock in the first game against England, then played with it the second game.

"We knew he might not be available today, he dropped out yesterday, he potentially could be back in on Tuesday.

"Joe Ralls won’t be back in at the moment he has to rest his leg. It will probably be a couple of weeks off playing.”
