Riza post-Hull City | We need to clean up our mistakes
Omer Riza spoke to the media after the Bluebirds were beaten 4-1 by Hull City on Saturday.
"We're disappointed, if I'm honest." Omer began. "We approached the game the right way; I think tactically and strategically we wanted to apply pressure to Hull, and I think we did that.
"We won the ball back up the pitch on numerous occasions, but we lacked that final pass or final decision to execute and score.
"I think 4-1 is a harsh result, but at the same time, if you don't do the little things properly, you get punished. That's something that we need to clean up.
"The plan was to press, to cause a problem, to make them uncomfortable, and we did that. We did create chances. We wanted to play with forward men and create extra bodies in the middle of the pitch, and we caused them a lot of problems.
"We've worked hard and showed good intent, but at the end of the day, its 4-1. It's not a good result. It comes from small errors, and not being able to clean things up well enough. We have to be better in those moments."
City's interim boss praised the Bluebirds squad before turning his attention to our upcoming midweek clash with Millwall.
"Everybody has been really supportive this week. The players have applied themselves excellently, they've put in loads of energy, mentally and physically. But, it's the small details - if you don't get them right, you get punished.
"We've got a good group. They're all honest and hard working. I can't question their character and their application; they've been superb, and I've just said to them that we have to kick on from this and improve.
"Now, we have to look forward to Tuesday. We've got Millwall, it's a tough game at home, and we'll approach the game with the same sort of mentality. We have to clean up those little bits that I've mentioned, to get a result.
"We've had to make substitutions today, Will Fish with his hamstring. He had a slight niggle before the game that we had to manage. He felt it, and he couldn't get through the game. Callum O'Dowda put in a big shift, and we have to manage him as well.
"Sio [Manolis Siopis] had a little problem with his groin, so we had to pull him out. Dimi Goutas had some family issues, so he had to go and deal with that. We have to make sure that players are in a good place, and I'm sure they'll be in contention again for Tuesday."
