Ralls post-Swansea City | Today is our day

Joe Ralls
Joe Ralls spoke to Sky Sports following our South Wales derby win over Swansea City.

The Bluebirds claimed victory thanks to a brace from Callum Robinson and a goal from Dimitrios Goutas.

“It’s a massive day for us in such a big game," Rallsy began. "It’s been a very emotional week and we were so determined to go out there, put on a performance for the manager and also for everyone in our city and we did that today, so it’s a great day for us.

“I’m really proud of the performance, from everyone that came onto the field, the whole group. We’re such a together team, we’ve made a lot of big strides in the last few weeks and you’re seeing a really good side out there now who are fighting for each other. You need that in a derby and it was massive for us today.

"Once we got that first goal, we really controlled the game. We added the second and the third and today’s our day, it’s a great day for us.

"We’ve shown what Cardiff City is about, today’s our day and the changing room is bouncing.”

After going into the break goalless, City started the second half quickly, scoring after just 73 seconds.

Rallsy continued: “We made slight adjustments during the first half, they drop a lot of players into the back line, which makes it difficult for our players to press. We made some changes and finished the half strong, which we carried into the second half. We put pressure on them, the goals helped add to that which gives the stadium and the fans a lift. From then on, we showed really good intent to get up to them and make it a difficult afternoon for them. It was brilliant from Robbo and Dimi with an unbelievable header.

“The derby isn’t just about the game, but about the build-up as well, you can feel this week there was a different tension around the training ground and the boys know that, as well as the new players. It’s so important that players understand how massive this game is and I thought everyone, to a man, put in a really good shift today and a really good performance. Everyone battled hard, we can talk about the goals, but there were some really good defensive performances in there as well. We’ve done really well in that department in the last few games and we’ve carried that on today. To get the clean sheet along with the goals, I’m delighted.

Rallsy concluded by commenting on the performance of striker Robinson, who was named Man of the Match.

"He’s scoring a lot of goals this year and has come into this season really firing. He is chipping away with goals and he’s a massive player for us. He pops up in really important moments, he’s scored two really good finishes today, both with his weaker foot.

"He’s carried on his form that he’s shown for us, has come back in today after working really hard in training while he’s been unavailable, but he’s come back fit and firing for us today.”
