Ralls post-Newport County | The win gives us momentum

Joe Ralls spoke to Cardiff City TV following our final pre-season fixture and victory over Newport County at Cardiff City Stadium.

The midfielder put his mark on the game with a thunderbolt of a strike to open the scoring in the first period.

“It would have been good to have it next week,” he joked. “But it’s always nice to get a goal as it was the first real start for me back with the fans.

“We scored two good goals, created a lot of chances and I’m sure the fans enjoyed being back in the stadium and seeing the boys.

“We wanted to treat it like a proper league game and get a win to make sure we’re going into next week with good momentum.”

The Bluebirds open their Championship campaign against Barnsley next Saturday and the 27-year-old looked forward to the first challenge lying in wait here at CCS.

“We’ve still got things we need to brush up on,” Joe continued. “But it was a good win to take us into next week. We’re ready; the Gaffer’s got the whole squad ready.

“We’ve got new faces around the place, with the new signings and youngsters coming in. The core is still here at the Club, with lads that have been here a long time, so it’s a good blend.  A lot of those young boys have been getting valuable experience and it’s a good learning experience for them.”
