Pre-Swansea City | Seren Watkins
We caught up with City midfielder Seren Watkins ahead of the Bluebirds’ clash with Swansea City Women on Sunday.
The fixture will be the last game of Phase One, with Iain Darbyshire’s side heading into the contest on the back of a 3-1 win over Barry Town United last week.
“Every win is massive for us,” Seren began. “We go into each game wanting to get three points. To do that against Barry really sets us up nicely going into the game against Swansea on Sunday.
“We’ve had such a good run in Phase One and we want to go into Phase Two with the same attitude. To get a win to see it off would be massive for us and it’s something that we know we’re capable of doing."
In the reverse fixture back in November, City claimed a crucial 1-0 victory, with the key moment coming from Molly Kehoe, who scored a winning goal in the second half.
Seren continued: “It was a massive win for us. We’ve been close to beating them away from home for a few seasons in-a-row now and to do it this year, it meant a lot to us. It was definitely something that we deserved with all the hard work we put in during the game.
“We’re all really excited. Obviously, it’s a big derby game. Similar to when we played them away earlier in the season, we know what we want to do, how we’re going to play and we’ll be aiming for another three points.”
Whilst the Bluebirds are eight points clear at the top of the Adran Premier table, another huge positive this season has been the growth in support.
“We love seeing the familiar faces at our games, but also the new fans as well,” Seren added.
“We really appreciate it. Having them at the stadium games helps us a lot, but we want to keep having more and more fans coming to our games at Leckwith. It’s something that helps us on the pitch and gives us all a big boost on a matchday.”
