Pre-Season Match Preview | Forest Green Rovers Women vs. Cardiff City FC Women
Cardiff City FC Women continue pre-season preparations by travelling to face Forest Green Rovers Women on Wednesday evening, 8pm KO.
The Bluebirds have had a positive pre-season campaign so far, earning wins over Briton Ferry Llansawel and Keynsham Town, along with putting in a strong performance in a narrow defeat to Portsmouth Women.
Opponents Forest Green Rovers Women compete in the South West Regional Premier Division, finishing fifth in the table last season.
“I know they’ve got a good setup and a good backing down there,” Iain began. “We’re excited to go there and play someone we haven’t played before. It’ll be a good test for our players, we’ve recovered well from the Portsmouth game. This is just a different test for us in different conditions, so we’re excited to see what challenges they pose.”
One of City’s most exciting players last season was Lily Billingham, who netted the second goal in the FAW Women’s Cup final. The attacker expressed that it’s been a positive pre-season so far.
She said: “Pre-season’s gone really well for us so far. We’ve been working really hard in training to prepare for the season. We’ve had some good tests against tough opposition, which is exactly what we need going into the new campaign. Playing games like these is exactly what we need as a group and we’re all ready for it.”
Defender Megan Bowen, who joined City this summer from Barry Town United, added: “Pre-season’s gone really well for us. The trip to Portsmouth on the weekend really helped the squad bond together. We’re all looking forward to the game against Forest Green, because it’s a chance for us to improve as a team, challenge ourselves and try the things that we’ve been working on in training.”
