Pre-Pontardawe Town | Ffion Price
We caught up with Ffion Price ahead of the Bluebirds' Adran Trophy clash with Pontardawe Town this Sunday.
City have had positive runs in the competition in the last two seasons, reaching the final in both campaigns.
"The cup is always an exciting journey for anyone," Ffion began. "The cup for us was a learning journey in itself. It was the push and drive we needed to complete our successful season. We learnt a lot about ourselves and bounced back in the league to prove this. We are hoping to go one better this year and show how far we have come.
"The team always set high expectations. That includes winning every game. We learnt a lot from defeats and we know what it’s like to miss out. We are determined more than ever to turn this feeling into a positive one and strive for one better."
Cup competitions have seen head coach Iain Darbyshire give invaluable senior experience to U19s players.
Six of the U19s squad have featured at senior level this season, including Marnie Gingell, Summer Bowen-Quirk, Mali Ackerman, Brooke Arthur, Madison Lloyd and Olivia Basham.
Ffion continued: "It’s always key to develop and support the youth system as they will be key to our progress in the future. They have demonstrated their talents and ability to complete with the senior team. It also provides a lot of competition in the team. It’s been great to see them succeed and be amongst the squad.
"They’ve been great. They have just got stuck in. They have shown a real drive and added a competitive edge. It’s been pleasing to see them succeed and get the opportunity that they deserve."
With the fixture being played at Cardiff International Sports Campus, the Bluebirds have a brilliant record at home, having been undefeated on home soil since December 2022.
"Myself and the team are delighted with this," Ffion added. "It’s something we pride on and want to continue this win streak. The team has been excellent and demonstrated this with our successful record.
"It’s essential that we keep our standards high. The team is the most competitive it’s ever been. Everyone is fighting for their shirt. This helps push and challenge one another. We’ve got a great group of players who I’m lucky enough to play with."
