Iain Darbyshire
PRE-MATCH | IAIN DARBYSHIRE

Ahead of the clash, head coach Iain Darbyshire said: “I’m very excited to return to Cardiff City Stadium to play against The New Saints for our next fixture.

"They have had a great start to the season, recruited very well and are a team on the up, so we know it is going to be a difficult challenge.

"We are looking forward to it and hoping to put on a great showing in front of our home fans and give them the performance they deserve.”

Fiona Barry
PRE-MATCH | FIONA BARRY

We caught up with attacker Fiona Barry, who netted her first goal for the Club last time out against Cardiff Met.

“I think we took a little bit of time to get into the game, but once we were comfortable, it always looked like we were going to win the game," she began. "Scoring my first league goal was a really nice feeling, it was an important goal just before half time to go in level and hopefully, now that I have scored one, I’ll have a few more to follow.

“I think I’ve settled in quite well, it’s a really good group of girls that have helped me settle in and have also pushed me already. The coaching staff have also been great in pushing me too, which has helped me settle in.

"It has been a step up for me, I think in training I’ve definitely been pushed a lot more than I previously had, which is a nice new challenge to have.

“I’m very excited to play at CCS for the first time, it’s a big game against TNS. They’ve had a great start to the season with two wins so far in the league as well, so it will be a good first game for me to have at the stadium.”

OPPOSITION FOCUS

The New Saints have enjoyed a strong start to the season, coming into the fixture after winning their first two matches.

They are now on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the Adran Premier – having won 5-in-a-row at the end of last season.

After emphatically beating Barry Town United 5-0 on the opening day of the season, they backed it up with a 6-1 win against Aberystwyth Town FC last time out.

Manager Shauna Duffy named an unchanged side for the game this past Sunday. Tiggy Webb scored two goals in her home debut for the club, while Chantelle Teare scored one and assisted another for the second consecutive week. Lexi Jones, Lia Lewis and Molly Havard were among the other scorers for the Saints

In the two meetings between both sides last season, the Bluebirds emerged 3-1 and 6-0 winners.
