Iain Darbyshire
PRE-MATCH | IAIN DARBYSHIRE

As we reach the end of Phase One, we caught up with head coach Iain Darbyshire to reflect on the season so far.

“It’s been a season of learning so far. We had a large turnover of players and spent the first few months of the season getting to know the new players and finding a system that allows everyone to play to the best of their ability. Since Christmas, we have really turned a corner, we have settled in our system and the players are really responding to it. We’re really happy with where we’re at. I think we’ll be able to get that level of consistency that we’ve been missing and have a positive Phase Two.

“We’ve had some difficult moments this season that have allowed us to grow as a group. We needed those moments for players to understand the level that is needed to play for Cardiff City and the pressure that comes with it. That has helped us to improve throughout the season and puts us in a better position going into Phase Two.

“It’s very rewarding to see. It makes me extremely happy to see that the players are taking on the information that we need them to take and develop into Cardiff City players. It puts us in great shape going forward.

“You want to be challenged as a coach and have moments when you need to dig deep and think how you can get the best out of your players. The turnover of players and the amount of injuries we’ve had has created that challenge for us this season, but we’ve come through and it’s now about not resting on our laurels. We want to keep getting the most out of the players each and every week; if we do that, we’ll have a positive end to the season.”

Molly Kehoe
PRE-MATCH | MOLLY KEHOE

Ahead of Sunday's clash, playmaker Molly Kehoe, who netted a fine strike against Barry Town United last time out, said: "I think the first half of this season has been really good for us. Having quite a lot of new signings that have adapted quickly to how we play has helped. The league is a lot more competitive than last season so it’s been more of a test than what we had to deal with previously.

"Since Christmas, we went and beat TNS in a really competitive game, I think that was very important for us and gave us confidence as a team. The game this weekend is very important, we must end Phase One on a high to go into Phase Two with momentum. Aberystwyth always play well against us and if we don’t start the game how we know we can play, we can’t doubt them as we know they can punish us.

"At the start of the season, I wasn’t as consistent as I’d like to have been as I was adjusting to playing different positions, but I’m back playing a bit more attacking now, which I always enjoy and I just know I have to take my chances when they come."

Aberystwyth Town Women
OPPOSITION FOCUS | ABERYSTWYTH TOWN

Our opponents this Sunday head into the contest currently sitting seventh in the Adran Premier table, with their place in the Plate Conference in Phase Two confirmed.

They trail Barry Town United in sixth by 12 points, whilst holding a three-point lead over Cardiff Met, who occupy the bottom spot.

The Seasiders began 2025 with early promise, as they claimed a 1-1 draw at Park Avenue against Barry Town United, before a 1-0 victory over relegation rivals Cardiff Met.

Since then however, the side have fallen to defeats to Swansea City, Briton Ferry Llansawel and Wrexham.

In their last fixture, the Seasiders bowed out of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup at the Quarter-Final stage, falling to a 2-0 loss to Pontypridd United.

Our last meeting with Aberystwyth Town was a dramatic win for the Bluebirds, coming from 2-0 down to win 4-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Ffion Price.
