Player Focus | A winning habit for Tanatswa Nyakuhwa
It’s been a positive few weeks for Cardiff City’s U18s side, who are on an impressive run of form.
The young Bluebirds have won five consecutive league fixtures, rising up to third in the PDL South.
A big part in the side’s success has been attacker Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, who has been at the Club since the age of seven.
“It’s been a decent few weeks for us,” Tanatswa began. “We had a bit of a rough start to the season, where we were playing well, but we weren’t quite getting the results we wanted.
“In the last five league games, we’ve built a good chemistry and a good understanding between the boys and we’ve managed to get some results now.
“I definitely think there’s more to come. We’ve started to show what we’re about. Our performances are leading to results now. The coaches want us to focus on our performances and we believe that the results follow from that.
“We’ve got a lot more to show, we’ve shown some of our quality so far, but as the season goes on, we’ll hopefully show even more.”
The run of five consecutive league wins included a dramatic 3-2 victory over Swansea City at Cardiff International Sports Campus.
City showed character to come from 2-0 down, with Trey George netting a fine hat-trick.
“It felt great," Tanatswa continued. "To beat Swansea City, we all enjoyed that one. With us being down at half time, we were told to keep patient, keep pushing and probing and we managed to get the three points at the end. We were all delighted.
“The way we grafted and didn’t give up shows that we have those qualities on the pitch, both individually and as a team. That’s a bit of a glimpse of what we’re about.
“That result shows the belief we have as a team. We know how we can play and how we can perform, so getting the win was a reflection of that.”
The young Bluebirds are back in PDL Cup action on Saturday, as they take on Bournemouth away from home.
With the side in fine form, Tanatswa concluded by expressing their desire to continue improving.
“We want to keep having those standards and take it game by game. We focus on how we perform and we believe that if we perform well enough, the results will continue to come.
“The new facilities help us with that. Moving there this season has been great and it will really help with our development and the future of Cardiff City.”
