Phoebie Poole named in Wales senior development camp squad
Cardiff City FC Women’s Phoebie Poole has been selected for the Welsh National Team’s senior development camp.
After a stellar season for the Bluebirds, the exciting prospect’s inclusion is her first at senior level, having previously represented Wales' U19 team.
Making 23 City appearances during the 2021/22 campaign, Poole netted an impressive tally of 18 goals in all competitions, playing a huge part in a season which culminated with victory in the FAW Women’s Cup Final.
In her most recent game for Wales’ U19s in April, the striker netted the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Iceland. Back in October, Poole scored a hattrick against Albania, as well as a brace versus Moldova.
Having been selected in Wales’ senior team for the first time, Poole expressed her excitement at the call-up.
“It’s really difficult to sum up my emotions,” she began. “It’s a really proud moment for me and my family. It’s always an honour to get called up for the national team, and I’m really excited.
“You’re playing with some top players from top leagues and to be learning from an amazing manager like Gemma Grainger, I know I’m going to be learning a lot, even in two days.
“This call-up shows how much of a platform Cardiff City has been for me. I’m really grateful for how this team have continuously improved me as a player on and off the pitch, helping me both mentally and physically, so I think they’ve definitely helped me to improve in my two years at the Club.”
Head coach Iain Darbyshire added: “I am incredibly proud that Phoebie has been selected for a senior women's international camp.
“At just 18 years of age, Phoebie is a fantastic talent who has a whole career in football ahead of her, and we will do our very best to provide Phoebie with the attributes required to represent Wales regularly in the future.”
