Pack post-Barnsley | It was great to have the fans back in full voice
BARNSLEY REACTION | MARLON PACK
Marlon Pack spoke to the press after netting the Bluebirds’ goal in a 1-1 draw against Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder struck City’s final goal of 2020/21 and opened their scoring account for 2021/22 with a fantastic header.
“It’s nice to get the first point on the board,” began Marlon following the final whistle. “We’re disappointed because we took the lead and expected ourselves to see it out.
“With the magnitude of the match and the build-up, it was really intense, really competitive and it just typifies the Championship.”
Prior to kick-off, there was a tribute for all of those that we sadly lost during the past eighteen months.
“It was a tough start,” Marlon continued. “I felt myself choking up, getting a bit of a lump in my throat and I had to put my arm around Rallsy.
“I didn’t play with Whitts but I played against him, an absolutely fantastic player, one of the best the Championship and Cardiff City have ever seen.
“It was a brilliant tribute, not just to Whitts but to all of those that lost their lives and I felt this game was for them, so I would like to dedicate my goal to them.”
The fixture saw 17,431 supporters in attendance and the Cardiff City fans made themselves heard throughout the 90 minutes.
“That’s what we love about football - the passion of the fans,” the 30-year-old added. “It was a sterile atmosphere when there were no supporters, so it was great to have those fans back in full voice and it’s just a bit unfortunate that we couldn’t send them home with three points.”
