Perry Ng spoke to Cardiff City TV after our 1-0 victory over Millwall on Tuesday evening.
The right-back netted the winning goal in the first half, heading home from a pinpoint Joe Ralls corner.
"It’s been a long time coming, but this has to be the kickstart to our season now," Perry began. "We showed everything today, which we haven’t shown so far. We’ve just got to continue that, kick on and gain some momentum.
"We wanted to show intensity, not concede goals, which we have been doing, then be calm and collected on the ball. We're really happy with that, so long may that continue."
The Bluebirds created chances to add to the lead, but at the other end of the pitch, it was a dogged display to ensure a valuable clean sheet.
Perry continued: "We knew what we were up against, but we showed today that we can fight and we won't concede easy goals. This has to be the start of our season.
“I thought we were excellent. We thought that even if we didn't win the first half, then we had to win the second one. We cleared a few off the line, but we showed fight and it was brilliant. I'm glad to get another goal, so hopefully I can get a few more."
Next up is a clash with Bristol City in Sunday's Severnside Derby at Ashton Gate. Perry netted in both fixtures between the two sides last season, as the Bluebirds claimed two victories.
“We've just got to show what we did today, fight," Perry added. "We’ll have to be a bit better on the ball, but hopefully we can go there and get another win, whether that's a goal from me or someone else. I like the derby, so I hope we can go there and get a win."
