Cardiff City FC Women’s winning run of five games came to an end, as they lost to Swansea City Ladies at Llandarcy Academy of Sport in the Welsh Premier Women’s League on Sunday afternoon.
Following a goalless first-half, the hosts netted through Katy Hosford and then Stacey John-Davis.
Iain Darbyshire named an unchanged starting line-up from the 6-1 win at Briton Ferry Llansawel last time out.
Ceryn Chamberlain made a brilliant save after 12 minutes, as John-Davis shot on target from an acute angle at close range. One minute later, goalkeeper Chamberlain made a similarly brilliant stop off Sarah Adams’ distanced attempt.
With 23 minutes played, Ria Hughes struck the post and wide from a narrow angle, but City responded strongly. Shortly after, Lisa Owen sped along the right flank, before delivering a dangerous cross, across the face of goal and Danielle Green was unlucky not to connect.
Just past the half-hour mark, Cardiff City crafted a great chance. Hannah Daley sped forward from defence, before passing to Kate Jeremiah, who sent Alana Murphy through on goal – but the forward was denied by Deanna Lewis.
After the interval, it took eight minutes for the deadlock to be broken, as Hosford headed into the bottom corner.
With 20 minutes of the 90 remaining Chamberlain did well to save from John-Davis’ effort, but the forward doubled her side’s lead shortly after.
Despite the Bluebirds’ battling efforts, no clear-cut opportunities arose for the remainder and the visitors’ winning run of five games ended.
Post-match interview: Iain Darbyshire
“We had a good first half. It was 0-0 at half-time and we had a game plan that we struck to in patches, but when you don’t take your chances and give away soft goals, you’ll lose the game and that’s what happened.
“We'll come back stronger, and learn from it. The players have been amazing so far, so we move forward and look to get back to winning ways next time out.”
