The Bluebirds recorded a point at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park on Saturday afternoon.
Yousef Salech’s first half goal put City in front, but Muhamed Tijani equalised in the second period.
Omer Riza made two changes to the side that faced Bristol City last time out, as Aaron Ramsey and Salech came into the starting XI.
City made a bright start to the contest and went close in the opening minutes, as Will Alves’ cross found Salech, whose header was clawed away by a stretching Conor Hazard. The Bluebirds were rewarded for making a positive start and took the lead in the 12th minute, with the same duo combining. Alves found space on the right side of the box and crossed low for Salech, who turned in from close-range.
Halfway through the first half, the hosts had a spell of possession and applied pressure, going close to an equaliser through Adam Randell, who fired just wide from the edge of the box. Minutes later, Tymoteusz Puchacz struck past the post with an effort from a free-kick.
The Bluebirds responded well, as Rubin Colwill drove forward and played in Alves, who won a corner. From the set-piece, Sivert Mannsverk redelivered into the area, with Colwill’s instinctive effort flying just over. Just before the break, Alves was played in by Salech and struck a half-volley over the woodwork.
At the start of the second half, substitute Bali Mumba raced through for the hosts was brought down by Dimitrios Goutas, who was shown a straight red card for City. With the resulting free-kick flying wide, the Pilgrims went close again on the hour mark, with Mumba’s header hitting the woodwork.
With 68 minutes on the clock, substitute Muhamed Tijani found the net for the hosts to equalise. With the man advantage, the hosts applied pressure in the second half, but City held strong to record an away point.
The Bluebirds are in action at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening, hosting Hull City with kick-off at 7:45pm.
