Match Report | Millwall 3-1 Cardiff City
The Bluebirds fell to a 3-1 defeat at Millwall on Saturday, April 13th.
City started with 10 of the same players that began the midweek win over Birmingham City, with Rubin Colwill replacing Aaron Ramsey in the single change.
The Bluebirds began strongly but it was the hosts who took the lead. Michael Obafemi reacted quickest at the back post to finish and give his team the advantage after nine minutes.
Millwall controlled possession for a short period after taking the lead, but Erol Bulut's Bluebirds soon got back into the flow and deservedly levelled the match after 24 minutes. Yakou Méïté met Rubin Colwill's deep free kick to head home his second goal of the campaign.
City had a good opportunity to take the lead after 43 minutes. The hosts failed to clear Joe Ralls' corner kick with the ball falling to Nat Phillips in the box. The on-loan Liverpool man shot left footed, but off target.
Bulut's side were punished for not taking this chance in first half added time. Millwall captain Jake Cooper lashed into the roof of the net at close range to give his side the advantage back.
The Bluebirds fought hard in the second half, but struggled to break down their hosts, who are battling for survival in the Championship in the final weeks of the season.
Ralls' strike from distance after 67 minutes troubled shot stopper Šarkić, but he managed to hold the ball.
The likes of David Turnbull, Cian Ashford and Famara Diédhiou were introduced after the hour mark as City added further pressure to the Lions' back line.
A late leveller wasn't to be though, with Millwall catching the Bluebirds on the counter to kill the game off. Substitute Duncan Watmore scored the third for the hosts, securing an important three points for them.
