Match Report | Millwall 2-2 Cardiff City

Rubin Colwill
The Bluebirds showed great character to claim a point at The Den on Tuesday evening.

Despite falling two goals behind, goals from Chris Willock and Yousef Salech saw City record a draw.

Omer Riza made five changes to the starting XI from our South Wales derby win, including starts for Joel Bagan, Manolis Siopis, Rubin Colwill, Yakou Méïté and Willock.

Yakou Meite

The hosts took an early lead through Callum Scanlon, who broke into the box and fired home. City responded well, as Méïté cut inside smartly from the right, before striking a powerful effort from distance just wide. In another attack a slick move saw Colwill find Callum Robinson in the box, who forced a save from Lukas Jensen.

Despite a positive reaction to falling behind , the Lions doubled their advantage in the 19th minute, as Casper De Norre fired in from close-range. City continued to have a healthy amount of possession and looked to break down a resolute backline, with the next chance falling to Méïté, who volleyed over from Bagan’s cross.

Just before the break, the Bluebirds halved the deficit, as the ball came to Willock on the left-hand side of the box. The winger cut inside and fired excellently into the far corner.

Andy Rinomhota

With momentum heading into the second period, City started brightly after the break, as Robinson shifted the ball inside, before having an effort saved by Jensen. In another attack, Willock drove towards the edge of the area, leading to a powerful strike going just wide of the post.

With just over five minutes left, substitute Anwar El Ghazi went close to equalising, as his free-kick flew inches wide. City went close once more, as Perry Ng’s cross was almost headed in by Salech. In added time, the striker had another opportunity, but headed just over from El Ghazi’s cross. Late in added time, City claimed a valuable point, as Ng headed the ball down to Salech, who fired in from close-range.
