The Bluebirds continued the pre-season tour of Austria with a 1-1 draw against South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Joel Colwill’s strike just after the break gave City the lead, before Tashreeq Matthews found an equaliser.
City started brightly and forced the first chance through some clever interplay between David Turnbull and Callum Robinson. Having found space on the left, the latter forced a save from goalkeeper Jody February. Midfielder Turnbull was again involved, winning the ball back well in midfield, before having a long-range effort saved.
The Bluebirds continued to pose a danger in attack, as Robinson shifted the ball onto his left foot, before firing over the woodwork. In another attack. City’s no.47 cut inside from the left and fired at goal, with the goalkeeper managing to tip the ball behind. A high-tempo first-half made for an invaluable pre-season workout, with the first half ending goalless.
Erol Bulut’s men made the perfect start to the second half, taking the lead in the 47th minute, as Joel Colwill found space in the box and applied a brilliant left-foot finish. The City midfielder went close to doubling his tally for the afternoon after the hour-mark, firing just over the woodwork.
With 75 minutes on the clock, the South African champions found an equaliser, with Matthews breaking free on the right and finding the bottom corner. The final ten minutes were an end-to-end contest, as the pre-season clash provided huge benefits, ending level.
