Match Report | Huddersfield Town 0-3 Cardiff City

Cardiff City secured consecutive away victories in style with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Having called for the Bluebirds to build momentum in an important week of fixtures, Neil Harris named an unchanged 18 from City's weekend victory at Kenilworth Road.

And build momentum they did, as they put in a faultless performance from the off at the John Smith's Stadium.

In the even opening exchanges, City absorbed the Terriers' pressure well, looking solid at the back as Alex Smithies made a comfortable early save from Juninho Bacuna's header.

City's defensive authority provided the platform for their creative players to thrive as Lee Tomlin and Josh Murphy enjoyed time on the ball.

It soon paid off as Tomlin put Murphy through on goal with a beautiful flick and the City winger lifted the ball over the 'keeper to give City the lead just before the half-hour mark.

It was a delightful goal that the Bluebirds thoroughly deserved, and just five minutes later they doubled their lead.

Marlon Pack's corner was turned home instinctively by Will Vaulks; the midfielder finding the far corner with a smart finish, giving him the opportunity to showcase his first backflip in the City shirt.

Tomlin had a fine chance to turn from provider to scorer soon after, but lifted his effort just over the bar.

He then looked to slide Albert Adomah through, but the winger was cynically held back by Richard Stearman, who went into the book as a result. Joe Bennett's fine effort from the resulting free-kick was tipped just over.

Into the second half, and the Bluebirds' dominance continued as they looked to extend their lead.

Emile Smith Rowe and Juninho Bacuna looked the most dangerous for the hosts, both stinging the palms of Smithies from range. However, City's settled back four continued to hold firm.

The game was then put to bed 20 minutes from time as Harris' men found their third. The newly introduced Junior Hoilett's effort was deflected into the path of Tomlin. Tommo also saw an effort thwarted by the Town defence before the ball fell to Callum Paterson, who made no mistake to turn home.

His fourth goal in six games was just reward for a tireless display by City's no. 13.

The full-time whistle saw City celebrate consecutive away victories for the first time this season, leading into their home clash with Wigan Athletic this Saturday afternoon.
