Kion Etete celebrates scoring for Cardiff City
Second half goals from Kion Etete and Perry Ng gave Cardiff City another well-earned three points at home against Rotherham United.

A solid all-round display earned the Bluebirds a fourth league win in-a-row, moving up to sixth in the table.

Erol Bulut made one change to the side that earned three points against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend, with Etete making his first Sky Bet Championship start of the season.

The Millers, who are yet to achieve an away point in the league so far, left Jak Alnwick untested in the first half. The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Yakou Méïté whose shot inside the box was blocked.

Midfielder Ryan Wintle was denied the opener by a smart low save from Viktor Johansson two minutes before the break, after an inch-perfect ball by Manolis Siopis.

City deservedly broke the deadlock on 56 minutes when a looping Karlan Grant ball was met in the box by Etete, heading into the bottom corner.

The visitors narrowly missed out on an equaliser with 61 minutes on the clock, as Oliver Rathbone won the ball back high up the pitch, before seeing his low drive well blocked by an alert Mark McGuinness.

Winger Ollie Tanner came within inches of doubling the Bluebirds' lead when he met a low Grant cross, directing his powerful drive wide.

Rotherham United substitute Arvin Appiah weaved his way into the City box after 81 minutes, before curling a left-footed drive over the bar.

Dimitrios Goutas in action for Cardiff City

City sealed the victory when Ng drilled home his first goal of the campaign from inside the box, after Iké Ugbo and Etete were denied from close-range. The crossbar denied the Millers a stoppage-time consolation as Appiah's curling effort bounced off the woodwork.

A disciplined performance preserved the clean sheet and secured the Bluebirds all three points. City travel to Middlesborough's Riverside Stadium on Tuesday, October 3rd, 7.45pm KO.
