Match Report | Cardiff City 0-2 Preston North End
CARDIFF CITY WERE DEFEATED BY PRESTON NORTH END ON Wednesday NIGHT.
Omer Riza made three changes to the starting XI, as Andy Rinomhota, Joel Bagan and Rubin Colwill came into the team.
In a half that contained limited chances, the Bluebirds created the first opening as Colwill slid in Yakou Méïté who shot wide of the near post.
Following this, the visitors attacked City for the first time; Josh Bowler tested Jak Alnwick at his near post on two occasions, with the shotstopper dealing with both comfortably.
As the half progressed the Bluebirds dominated possession and continued to probe, with multiple corners were swung in by Alex Robertson
The most meaningful opportunity of the half fell to City in the 37th minute, as Colwill dinked the ball through for Méïté who did everything right as he placed the ball past Freddie Woodman, however the recovering Jordan Storey cleared it off the line.
The Lilywhites earned the opening goal of the contest just three minutes into the second half, as Mads Frøkjær-Jensen’s effort deflected into the back of the net.
Moments later, for the second time in the match, City saw themselves come inches away from a goal as Callum O’Dowda crossed in for Perry Ng, whose header was heroically cleared off the line by Jack Whatmough, denying City an equaliser.
Throughout the half City continued to put pressure on Preston’s backline, in the 87th minute Chris Willock saw his curling effort fly just wide of the post.
The points were sealed for the visitors in the 93rd minute as Milutin Osmajić took advantage of a defensive mishap and converted to double the lead.
