Match Report | Cardiff City 0-1 West Bromwich Albion
Cardiff City were defeated by West Bromwich Albion at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening.
A second half goal from Jeremy Sarmiento proved to be the difference and gave the visitors all three points.
Erol Bulut made two changes to the side that overcame Preston North End on Saturday, as Mahlon Romeo and Ollie Tanner came in for Karlan Grant, who was ineligible to face his parent club, as well as the suspended Jamilu Collins.
In a cagey opening to the affair, which saw a scarce amount of chances for either team, City’s first real opportunity of the game arrived in the 29th minute, as Callum Robinson saw his strike fly over the crossbar from inside the box.
West Brom responded by producing their best chance of the half, as Sarmiento struck the post after he was slid in by Grady Diangana.
In the 33rd minute, Josh Bowler, who had been a threat down City’s right for the whole half, drove at the Baggies' backline and found himself one on one with Alex Palmer, who saved Bowler’s low effort.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, as left winger Sarmiento cut inside and struck the ball into the bottom corner.
The next chance of the game also came to the Baggies, as Brandon Thomas-Asante headed over from close range, following a long throw in from the right side.
Rubin Colwill provided City with a creative spark, as he was heavily involved in some late pressure from the Bluebirds, but the visitors held on to claim the three points.
