Match Report | Cardiff City 0-0 Queens Park Rangers
Cardiff City were held to a goalless draw by Queens Park Rangers at Cardiff City Stadium on Boxing Day.
Mark Hudson made two changes from the last game against Blackpool, with Rubin Colwill and Jaden Philogene stepping into the starting XI.
The returning Colwill had the first opportunity five minutes into the game. He stepped up to take a free kick on the edge of the area, but his effort just dipped past the post.
It was certainly an energetic start from the Bluebirds. Callum Robinson and Callum O’Dowda caused problems down the left, while Joe Ralls had an effort blocked from range.
The visitors’ best effort of the half fell to Kenneth Paal after the half hour mark, but his free kick went wide of the post.
City had a chance to go in front three minutes before the break. A Ryan Wintle cross was whipped into a dangerous area, but neither Robinson nor Kion Etete could find the crucial touch to put the ball in the net.
Robinson and Perry Ng had chances to put Hudson’s team ahead before the referee blew his whistle, but neither could convert, as the sides went into their dressing rooms with the score at 0-0.
The first chance of the second half fell to City. A cross from Colwill caused confusion in the QPR box, allowing Etete to strike, but his shot went agonisingly past the post.
City's best chance of the game fell before the hour mark. Cedric Kipré's downward header found the onrushing Etete, but he fired his effort over the bar from a promising position.
City were turning the screw throughout the half and had far more of the ball than the R’s, but no clear-cut chance arose.
A minute before the end, Ralls’ corner found the head of O’Dowda, but he could only guide his header wide of the post.
Despite the Bluebirds having the better of the chances the match ended goalless. City return to league action on Thursday, December 29th in their final game of 2022, as they travel to face Coventry City.
