Chris Wilder
OPPOSITION FOCUS | IN THE DUGOUT

Sheffield United’s manager is Chris Wilder, who has been in the post since December 2023.

Wilder started his managerial career in non-league with spells at Alfreton Town, Halifax Town and Oxford United.

He led the U’s back to the Football League through the Play-Offs in his first full season in charge.

He switched Oxfordshire for Northampton Town in January 2014 and guided the Cobblers to the League Two title in his second season in charge.

Wilder joined his boyhood side Sheffield United in May 2016. His first spell at the Blades saw him take his side from League One to the Premier League and achieved an impressive ninth place finish in their first season back in top-flight football.

The Yorkshire-born manager then went on to have a spell at Middlesbrough, before taking charge at Watford on a short-term contract.

Wilder returned home to Sheffield United in December 2023, but couldn’t keep the Blades afloat in the Premier League, finishing in 20th place with 16 points.

Callum O'Hare
OPPOSITION FOCUS | SEASON SO FAR

The opposition head into the contest sat third in the Sky Bet Championship. The Blades will be compact at the back, having only conceded 17 times in 26 games this season.

Sheffield United will be looking to regain the form they found earlier in the season, having only won one of their last four matches.

As attention turns to Emirates FA Cup action, Sheffield United will be hoping for a repeat of their third-round victory last year.

The Blades cruised past Gillingham 4-0, before being defeated 5-2 by Brighton & Hove Albion, bowing out of the competition in the fourth round.

The Yorkshire side have won four FA Cups throughout their history, the most recent coming exactly 100 years ago.

Campbell
OPPOSITION FOCUS | KEY PLAYER

One of Sheffield United’s key players this season has been Tyrese Campbell, who joined in August last year from Championship side Stoke City.

The striker has found his shooting boots this season, netting six times in 14 games.

Campbell’s last appearance saw him score a vital goal, securing a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

The forward has been absent from the last seven matchday squads due to injury, but is expected to return from injury shortly and could make his first appearance back this week against the Bluebirds.

1925 FA Cup Final
CITY FLASHBACK | FA CUP FINAL

This Thursday’s clash won’t be the first time the two sides have met in FA Cup action. The two teams reached the FA Cup Final in 1925 as Cardiff City looked to be the first side outside of England to win the prestigious trophy and the Blades looked to win their fourth.

Both sides only conceded two goals on route to the final at Wembley Stadium, which saw a packed-out crowd of over 90,000 people.

The only goal of the game was scored by Sheffield United’s Fred Tunstall after 30 minutes, dispatching his shot past City’s goalkeeper Tom Farquharson to secure the trophy for the Blades.

The Bluebirds returned to Wembley just two year later for redemption, beating Arsenal 1-0 to claim their first ever FA Cup win.

City’s historic FA Cup victory still remains the only occasion the trophy has been won by a side based outside of England.
