Match Preview | Millwall vs. Cardiff City
Cardiff City travel to The Den to face Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon.
OPPOSITION FOCUS | IN THE DUGOUT
Millwall’s manager is a familiar face to Bluebirds fans, with Neil Harris being re-appointed in February 2024.
During his playing career, Harris played over 350 league games for the Lions, whilst also having a loan spell with City in 2004.
Since becoming a manager, the 46-year-old was in the hot seat at The Den between 2015 and 2019, prior to moving to the Welsh capital.
Spending two years with the Bluebirds, Harris led the Club to the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.
Before his return to Millwall, he also held roles at Gillingham and Cambridge United.
OPPOSITION FOCUS | SEASON SO FAR
It’s been a tough season for Millwall, who remain in danger of relegation from the Sky Bet Championship.
With four games of the campaign remaining, the side currently sit 17th in the table, four points above the drop zone.
In their last six fixtures, the Lions have recorded seven points, leaving them 16th in the form table.
Last time out, the side claimed a fantastic victory however; they defeated league leaders Leicester City, with Ryan Longman netting a second half winner.
In terms of their home record, their 21 home matches this season have resulted in 26 points, a record that ranks 18th in the division.
OPPOSITION FOCUS | KEY PLAYER
Millwall’s most influential player is Zian Flemming, who is the club’s top scorer this season with eight goals.
The playmaker has also contributed with creativity, recording five assists.
The Dutchman has impressed since his move from Fortuna Sittard in 2022 and has adapted well to life in the Sky Bet Championship.
His most recent goal was back in February, as he netted the winner in a 1-0 victory over Watford.
CITY FLASHBACK | PREVIOUS MEETING
Centre-back Dimitrios Goutas has impressed since joining the Bluebirds in the summer, not only for his defensive displays.
The Greek international has also been a huge danger in the opposition box, which was shown in our last meeting with Millwall.
In a contest that was set to end goalless, Dimi popped up with the key moment just 12 minutes from time.
The combination of Joe Ralls’ corner deliveries and Dimi’s threat has been productive this term and it proved to be the difference, as the centre-back rose highest in the box to head home and seal all three points.
