Match Preview | Luton Town vs. Cardiff City
THE BLUEBIRDS TAKE ON LUTON TOWN IN SKY BET CHAMPIONSHIP ACTION AT KENILWORTH ROAD ON WEDNESDAY EVENING.
The fixture will take place on November 6th, with a kick off time of 8pm.
OPPOSITION FOCUS | IN THE DUGOUT
Luton Town’s manager is Rob Edwards, who has been in the role since January 2022.
In his playing days Edwards represented Wales at international level, making 15 appearances for his country.
Edwards started his coaching career with Wolverhampton Wanderers U18’s before progressing to First Team assistant. He then went on to manage Telford United and England U16’s.
In May 2021 Edwards was appointed as Forest Green Rovers manager, where he impressed, leading the side to the League 2 title and earning promotion to League 1 for the first time in the club’s history.
This earned him a move to Watford, where he was sacked after just 11 games; he then went on to join the Hornets’ rivals Luton Town later that season.
In his first season with the Hatters, he guided them to their first promotion to the Premier League in the club’s history, beating Coventry City in the Play-Off Final on penalties.
During Edwards’ tenure at Luton Town, he has won 29 out of 89 matches, a win percentage of 32.56%.
Opposition focus | Season so far
Having suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, the Hatters have had a tough return to Championship life, currently sitting in 21st place.
Town have struggled at home this season, picking up eight points at Kenilworth Road.
The Hatters will be looking to climb up the table having now gone three games without a victory in the Sky Bet Championship.
Last time out, Luton Town earned a hard-fought point at home to West Bromwich Albion. A 60th minute goal from Tahith Chong was enough to secure a vital point for the side.
OPPOSITION FOCUS | KEY PLAYER
Luton Town's key player this season has been Carlton Morris, who joined the club ahead of their promotion push back in 2022.
Morris was Luton Town’s top goal scorer last season, netting 11 times in the Premier League.
The prolific striker has continued his fine form so far this term, scoring four goals in nine appearances in the Sky Bet Championship.
With the absence of Tom Lockyer, Morris has stepped up as acting captain on the pitch this season.
CLUB CONNECTIONS | Bluebirds & Hatters
Wednesday evening could see some players come up against their former club, starting with Ethan Horvath.
The American shot stopper played a crucial part in Luton Town’s promotion season back in the 2022/23 campaign, amassing 51 appearances in all competitions for the Hatters.
Mark McGuinness enjoyed a successful spell for the Bluebirds, making 83 appearances and scoring 6 goals, before making the switch to Bedfordshire this summer.
Former loanee Alfie Doughty spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan in the Welsh capital. He has gone on to establish himself as an integral part of the Luton side, making 37 appearances last season in the Premier League.
Welshman Lockyer was born and raised in Cardiff, representing City’s academy at youth level until under 16 level.
