Match Preview: Cardiff City FC Women vs. Aberystwyth Town Ladies
Cardiff City FC Women return to Cardiff International Sports Campus on Sunday afternoon to host Aberystwyth Town Ladies - kick-off at 2pm.
City's Form
Sunday will provide the Bluebirds with the opportunity to return to winning ways following their defeat against Cardiff Met last Sunday. In their first meeting of the season, the Archers defeated City 3-0 at Cyncoed Campus, with two goals being scored by Erin Murray, and a third scored by Robyn Pinder.
The result was only the side's second league defeat of the season following the Bluebirds' 5-1 defeat against Swansea City in December, with Iain Darbyshire's side currently in second place on the WPWL table.
In their last meeting, in October 2019 Cardiff City FC Women defeated Aberystwyth Town Ladies 6-0 at Park Avenue to remain top of the standings and extend their winning run to four games.
Alana Murphy netted a second consecutive hat-trick with Kate Jeremiah, Zoe Atkins and Eryn Gibbs also getting on the scoresheet.
The Greens
Promoted to the WPWL at the end of the 2018/19 season, Aberystwyth Town Ladies haven't had the best start to their current campaign, and are currently bottom of the table with no points.
In their last run out, the Greens came close to getting their first points on the table as they went up against Cyncoed Ladies. With Cyncoed taking an early lead, Aberystwyth turned the game around to go 2-1 up in the second half, with goals from Emily Thomas and Tania Wylde.
However, Cyncoed struck back once again, and with five minute from time they had regained their lead against the visitors.
